Nuwaubians sue sheriff, saying he was
slow to act on child molestation

Seven people have filed federal lawsuits against Putnam County
Sheriff Howard Sills, alleging he did not act quickly enough to
reports that their children were molested by Malachi York, leader
of the United Nuwaubian Nation of Moors religious sect.
York was convicted in April of molestation charges and received
a 135-year prison sentence.
Sills was served with the lawsuits on Wednesday and has not yet
responded to them.
